Best Time to Go on Safari in Tanzania

Tanzania offers safari experiences all year, but different seasons bring different advantages.

Dry Season (June to October)
This is the most popular safari period. Vegetation is thinner, and animals gather near water sources, making them easier to spot. It is also the best time to witness river crossings during the Great Migration in the northern Serengeti.

Green Season (November to May)
This season brings fresh grass, newborn animals, and beautiful scenery. It is perfect for birdwatching and photography. The southern Serengeti and Ndutu areas are ideal from January to March when wildebeest calve.

Short Rains (November–December)
Light rains create lush landscapes without disrupting travel too much.

Long Rains (March–May)
This is the low season, with fewer tourists and lower prices. Some remote roads may be difficult, but parks like Ngorongoro and Tarangire still offer good wildlife viewing.

The best time depends on what you want to see:
– Migration crossings → July to September
– Baby animals → January to March
– Fewer crowds → April or November
– Photography → Green season
